Successful Indicators of AMS Filing

AMS

As freight forwarders / NVOCC, we must complete the AMS filing 24 hours before loading. In practice, Ocean Carriers often require 48 or 72 hours before loading.

So, what are the indicators of a successful AMS filing? The following three responses must be obtained:

  1. The AMS filing receives an ACCEPT/OK response, meaning our submitted AMS has been passed the validation by the CBP system.
  2. Obtain the 1Y status notification: Indicates that the forwarder's House AMS matches the ocean carrier's master AMS filing, meaning the ocean carrier has submitted the master AMS and it matches our house AMS.
  3. Obtain the 3Z status notification: Indicates that the forwarder's AMS matches the ISF, meaning the Importer Security Filing required by the importer has been submitted and matches our AMS filing.

Detailed English explanations for 1Y and 3Z:

1Y: MVOC-NVOC Bill of Lading Match

Generated to FF/NVOCC when the SCAC and House B/L number transmitted by the FF/NVOCC matches that of the contract ocean carrier.

3Z: Importer Security Filing on File

Generated as a result of an accepted Importer Security Filing. An advisory message indicating that the Import Security Filing has been accepted for this shipment.

Important Note:

All three indicators must be obtained at least 24 hours before loading, please not force loading without them. Otherwise, CBP is likely to issue a $5,000 penalty.
